KINGSTON, Jamaica– A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) appears in the Gun Court on Thursday charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm following the discovery of a dead woman in his vehicle on February 26.

The soldier was previously charged with failure to hand over his firearm to police officers during the investigation into the circumstances surrounding discovering the dead woman in his car. He had been granted J$300,000 (One Jamaica dollar=US$0.008 cents) and will return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on July 28.

Police said that on February 26, they responded to a car accident. On arrival, they discovered the unidentified woman’s body protruding from the front passenger seat. The body was reported to have multiple gunshot wounds.

The police said that they revealed that the motor car belonged to a sergeant of the JDF, who is also a licensed firearm holder.

The JDF soldier must report to the nearest police station twice weekly and reside at the Clarendon address listed on file as part of his bail conditions.
