PARAMARIBO, Suriname– President Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi says Suriname is taking several initiatives to improve the economy. That trade missions from Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries will be visiting the Dutch-speaking CARICOM country next month.

During the budget debate, Santoshi told the National Assembly that the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturing Association (TTMA) would be organizing a trade mission in June in connection with the oil and gas conference co-organized by a state-owned oil company Staatsolie.

He said that a trade mission from Barbados is currently planned for June, and Suriname has successfully participated in the World Expo Dubai 2020.

Santoshi said that virtual trade missions have also been organized with the Netherlands. In January, contracts were made with Brazilian trade promotion organizations after the Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro.

The Parliament was told that following the visit of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation Minister Albert Ramdin to Morocco, several virtual meetings were arranged between the Surinamese and Moroccan business communities.

“Suriname has not only been placed on the map of the world, but our art and culture, our nature, flora and fauna, and our diversity have also been propagated in a professional manner, which has resulted in Suriname being awarded as one of the best pavilions,” Santokhi said.

He said that the Surinamese business community is currently participating in Floriade in the Netherlands, where the Surinamese agricultural and tourist product is exhibited.
