A STREET FAIR WITH CARIBBEAN FLAIR” ON SUN. JUNE 12, 2022 After two years, the Flatbush Ave. Street Fair is back! On Sun. June 12, the streets of Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood will be taken over by music, exhilarating rides, all the foods Flatbush is famous for, and great shopping. The annual Flatbush Avenue Street Fair will take place between noon and 6 pm along the 12-block stretch from Caton Ave. and Cortelyou Rd. in central Brooklyn. It will attract 13,000+ visitors to the Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District (the BID). Assorted vendors will join the bustling 250 storefronts in the district to create a shopping experience filled with the smells of roasting corn and jerk chicken as visitors browse through fashion items, jewelry, and West Indian specialties. Family activities include oversized carnival rides, music at Flatbush Central, Kings Theatre, and other locations. Sponsors Empire BlueCross BlueShield HealthPlus and MetroPlusHealth will have wellness information and plenty of giveaways.

At the BID’s booth at 873 Flatbush Ave., we will be gathering input on changes the community would like to see in the neighborhood. This effort, in conjunction with the Church Ave. BID is part of an Avenue NYC Commercial Revitalization Grant and has allowed us to create the well-received “A Cleaner Community” initiative to identify and address local sanitation issues directly. This year’s fair will spotlight several Caribbean organizations that do important, dedicated work in Brooklyn’s Caribbean communities and beyond:

● Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI): The organization offers an array of domestic and international business services and programs, and promotes trade in the US, the Caribbean region, and key Caribbean diaspora centers. CACCI will be opening the first-ever Caribbean American Chamber Trade Center in NY, opening soon at Flatbush Central. ● Deh Abroad: Deh Abroad is an online information portal providing information, networking, and resources for the Caribbean diaspora. ● Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace: formerly the Flatbush Caton Market, this expansive community and shopping hub includes local vendor stalls, a kitchen incubator, a body care incubator, and a soon-to-open food court. ● Little Caribbean:

In 2017, Shelley Worrell, founder of I AM Carib BEING, spearheaded the movement to name the Little Caribbean neighborhood of Flatbush. Known throughout Brooklyn and elsewhere for their signature food tours, pop-ups, and merchandise, Little Caribbean is a hub for creativity and collaboration. The Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District:

Formed in 1988, the Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District (the BID) provides services to keep Flatbush Avenue (from Parkside Avenue to Cortelyou Road) clean, safe, and profitable for its businesses. The BID is supported through a special tax assessment levied on properties within the BID. The BID provides sanitation services and graffiti removal, safety initiatives and installation of security cameras, holiday lights, events throughout the year, and promotion of the district as a shopping destination. Our staff works closely with government officials and agencies to promote policies and regulations that help our small businesses create a great place to live, work, shop, and operate a business.
