CURSIVE-WRITING!

Dear Editor,
The recent statement by NYC schools’ Chancellor-Carmen Farina that cursive writing skills are going to be reintroduced into public school classrooms is indeed very positive.
But why were these necessary and relevant skills removed from the classrooms to begin with?Everyone is so hyped up on having students have high tech computer skills that cursive writing was pushed to the side for a number of years.
It is so critical that students be able to write cursively.Computers cannot teach cursive writing, only skilled and competent teachers can, and there are many of these fine pedagogues in our public school classrooms.
A computer will not, and must not ever take the place of a dedicated professional teacher.
