PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is scheduled to chair the National Security Council meeting on Wednesday a few hours after he is reported to have “begun feeling faint” while attending a Carnival activity on Tuesday night, the Office of the Prime Minister has confirmed.

Eyewitnesses had earlier confirmed that Rowley was among several government ministers attending the judging of several pan yards on Tuesday night as part of the annual Carnival celebrations when he felt unwell at the Caribbean Airlines Invaders pan yard on the outskirts of the capital.

The Office of the Prime Minister said Dr. Rowley’s schedule began before dawn on Tuesday and included a visit to Pt. Lisas, in Central Trinidad.

“He worked throughout the day attending to several matters of State,” the statement said, adding that he had also “visited several pan yards yesterday evening.

“During the day, he did not have any meals and by 1:30 am (local time) began feeling faint and had to be assisted to his vehicle while awaiting the performance for the judges at The Oval.

“The Prime Minister has recovered and will chair the National Security Council Meeting this morning at 10 am. Dr. Rowley would like to thank everyone who expressed concern and support,” the statement added.
