Bucky Ital is a Brooklyn-based reggae artist who has just brought joy to nearly forty students in the Westmoreland community of Shrewsbury Logwood for the start of the new school term. Last week, Bucky presented students at Shrewsbury Logwood Early Childhood Institute with specially designed school bags for the new school year containing essential supplies- notebooks, pencils, sharpeners and erasers. Bucky, whose real name is Uhan Pearson, is a past student of the school. His mother too and several other family members attended Shrewsbury and this year Bucky wanted to make a difference to the welfare of the kids by contributing this gift to each student.
“I was born in that community and I really wanted to make a difference”, he told Caribbean Times. “This is the first time I’m undertaking this effort and it certainly won’t be the last. The response from the students their parents and the teachers was so positive and with so much gratitude that I am making this an annual event”, he continued.
To make the presentation a success, Bucky Ital invited several local past students to join forces with him. They all agreed without hesitation, and with the guidance of the school principal Mrs. Alecia Haye-Lawrence, the community also enjoyed a live performance from Bucky Ital who is one of the guest artists appearing on the remix of Peter Tosh’s legendary smash single Legalize It. Last year, Bucky escalated his stateside presence with the release of Smoke and Fly, a marijuana song, and Work Hard, a catchy tune promoting the virtues of industry and diligence.
