KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – A search has been launched for seven prisoners who escaped from a lock-up in the eastern parish of St. Mary on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
One of the men, Gaveen Hurd, 28, has been charged with murder, while Tray Walker, 24, is accused of rape. Two of the escapees, Jahmala Vernon and Delando Akenson, are both facing robbery charges.
The others have been charged with shooting and shooting with intent.
The men were discovered missing sometime after 6 a.m. (local time) on Thursday.
According to the head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, the authorities are trying to determine how the men were able to escape from the facility.
