BROOKLYN, NY – Jamaican Police on Wednesday seized cocaine worth more than the US $35,796,000 or $4.9 billion JMD in Morant Point in St Thomas on the easternmost point of mainland Jamaica.

Police said that 1, 200kgs of cocaine had been seized during the operation but have so far not given any further details.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials say they have seized an estimated 1,300 pounds of compressed marijuana during an anti-narcotics operation along the Water Wheel main road, Cave district in Westmoreland, on Tuesday.

The police said that a Freightliner truck, which was suspected to have been carrying the illicit drug, was signaled to stop, but the driver disobeyed, sped off and was pursued.

He was stopped at a roadblock and the police said the occupants engaged them in an exchange of gunfire.

The driver reportedly used the truck to attempt to mow down the cops. But the lawmen said that the truck subsequently crashed into another vehicle driven by a police officer.

The police said that the identity of the driver and the three occupants of the truck were being withheld as they continue their investigations.
