ATHLETICS-LEAD Gold for Johnson twins, Gibbons repeats as champion.

NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – The Johnson twins, Britannia and Britannia, headlined the morning session with their success. Still, Guyana stole a share of the attention after Anisha Gibbons repeated as javelin champion on day two of the 50th CARIFTA Games here Sunday.

Britannia tossed the shot put 14.54 meters to clinch gold in the girl’s Under-20 final, getting the better of her sister Britannie who measured 13.73m in the early action at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

St Lucian Joy Edward took bronze with a throw of 13.53, and Bahamian Annae Mackey missed out with a throw of 13.25m, which was only good enough for fourth place.

Gibbons, meanwhile, brought Guyana their second gold in as many days when she won the girl’s Under-20 javelin.

Hours after Tianna Springer grabbed gold in dramatic girls Under-17 400 meters, Gibbons measured 47.96m on her first attempt to beat out her rivals and retain the title she captured last year in Kingston.

Corann Kolet of French Guiana took silver with a throw of 45.32, while Vanessa Sawyer clinched the bronze with 43.37.

In the morning’s other final, Andrew Stone gave the Cayman Islands their second gold in as many days with his capture of the boy’s Under-20 long jump.

Stone leaped 7.54 meters in the second round, getting the better of Jamaican Demario Prince, who measured 7.44m, and Mateo Smith of the Bahamas, who clinched bronze in 7.44.

In the boy’s Under-20 200 meters qualifiers, Guyanese Omar James (21.66) and Ezekiel Newton (21.65), Jamaicans Javourne Dunkley (21.26) and Malique Smith-Band (21.39), along with Bahamian Adam Musgrove (21.38), all won their heats to advance to the next round.

In the girls Under-17s half-lap, St Lucian Naomi London (24.41), Bahamian Jamiah Nabbie (24.28), Jamaicans Shanoya Douglas (24.54) and Natrece East (24.16), along with Vincentian Thyra Charles (24.14), captured their heats to also move into finals contention.

Springer also joined the qualifiers, finishing second in heat five behind East in a time of 24.27
