CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Government legislator Lisa C. Jawahir has been elected unopposed as the Vice President of ParlAmericas Caribbean’s Gender Equality Network, becoming the first parliamentarian from the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) ever to hold the position.

She was elected during the recently held two-day joint conference of the seventh Gathering of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary Network on Climate Change (PNCC) and the 15th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary Network for Gender Equality (PNGE), held in Mexico.

A government statement said that Jawahir made a presentation to the conference that discussed “Parliamentary Exchange on Sustainable and Gender-Sensitive National Efforts to End Food Insecurity and Poverty.”

It said her presentation focused on initiatives and legislation the St. Lucia government passed to address the intersections between gender and climate resilience and how food security is impacted.

Jawahir was accompanied by Speaker Claudius Francis, who holds the post of Executive Member of ParlAmericas.
