Aubrey Norton faces a challenge to his leadership of the PNCR

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC -The leader of the primary opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Aubrey Norton, is expected to face a challenge to his leadership from party executive members, attorneys Roysdale Forde and Amanza Walton-Desi during the long-overdue Delegates Congress and Elections scheduled for June 28-30.

Norton, elected to the top post in December 2021, will come up against party executive members, attorneys Roysdale Forde and Amanza Walton-Desi, who have indicated their readiness to accept nominations for the post of party leader.

The last PNCR Congress was held in December 2021 and should have been held again two years later.

Norton announced that the Congress would be held under the theme “Forming the next Government: Building a just, inclusive and prosperous society for all,” reflecting the party’s determination to return to government in the next general elections and to implement its people-centered development strategy.

“The theme was chosen to reflect the Party’s determination to return to government in the next general elections and to implement its people-centered development strategy. Party delegates and members from all ten regions will attend Congress in person. There will be no virtual attendance. Arrangements have already started,” Norton said.

The PNCR was the major party in the coalition government of the A Partnership for National Unity (AAPNU) that lost the controversial 2020 regional and general elections to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).

Some aspects of the results are still before the courts or the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) officials.
