Finance Minister Colt Imbert says that the Central Bank Governor, Alvin Hilaire, will continue to serve in that position for another three years.
Imbert, who was speaking at a conference on Friday, made the statement as he dismissed claims made by Opposition Senator Wade Mark that retired Permanent Secretary, Vishnu Dhanpaul, was being considered for the position.
He confirmed that he recommended Hilaire – who was appointed in 2015 to serve a five-year term – for a three-year extension.
Dr. Dorian Noel, Lecturer in Finance at the University of the West Indies, has been appointed Deputy Governor. Another two appointments for the Deputy Governor’s positions will be filled over the course of the next few months.
“This means that Dr. Hilaire’s term in office will be eight years in total. That gives us the necessary continuity and also gives us the necessary period of time to do succession planning and to groom successors to Dr. Hilaire when he retires in December 2023.”
Hilaire is currently 63.
