BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC—The Belize government says it is cracking down on illegal gambling establishments that also claim to have online gaming licenses despite there being, in effect, a moratorium on online gaming.

“The government of Belize has recently discovered that several online gaming websites claim to have an online gaming license from Belize. The Ministry of Investment advises the internet community and public that Belize currently has a moratorium on online gaming licenses.”

The Ministry said that with the moratorium, no online gaming companies are licensed to operate from Belize, noting that “Additionally, no licenses will be issued until further notice.

“Any entity purporting to hold an online gaming license from Belize must immediately halt their operations, as they are operating in secrecy and unlawfully. The Ministry strongly advises all internet users to steer clear of these companies, reinforcing the government’s stance against illegal online gaming.

The statement did not indicate whether overseas companies are involved in illegal online operators.
