Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Endorses David Alexis for State Senate

Brooklyn, NY — Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) announced her endorsement of David Alexis, a socialist candidate, rideshare driver, and father of two running for State Senate in New York. 

“I’m so deeply honored to be endorsed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a major inspiration for me,” said David Alexis. “She showed the world that working-class people like me can run for office and win. I am so proud to be fighting alongside her for Medicare for all, dignity for immigrants, a Green New Deal, and a more liberated and just New York. Endorsements like this remind me that I stand on the shoulders of giants. Let’s win this together.”

Ocasio-Cortez is the latest in progressive elected officials and organizations to endorse Alexis. He is also supported by NYC elected officials Jabari Brisport (NY State Senate District 25), Phara Souffrant-Forrest (NY Assembly District 57), Marcela Mitaynes (NY Assembly District 51), Zohran Mamdani (NY Assembly District 36), and Emily Gallagher (NY Assembly District 50). Alexis is a working father whose platform is deeply rooted in his lived experience, including caring for his wife, who has the sickle-cell disease, and working with underserved and disabled New Yorkers to fight for healthcare services. He has also been a key organizer for the Public Power Campaign, which seeks to bring utilities under public, democratic control and build renewable energy sources rapidly. David started driving for Uber and Lyft in 2016. He began organizing other drivers to win better pay and benefits, leading him to co-found the Drivers Cooperative, the largest worker-owned business in the US. David is the cooperative’s Director of Community Partnerships.He would be the first Haitian-American elected to the New York State Senate if elected.

ABOUT DAVID ALEXIS: David is a longtime East Flatbush resident, a community organizer, and a working father of two. He is running against incumbent Kevin Parker for the Democratic nomination in State Senate District 21, which includes the neighborhoods of Flatbush, East Flatbush, Kensington, Midwood, Flatlands, and Mill Basin.
