PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Customs and Excise Division Tuesday said it had intercepted an estimated eight million dollars (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) worth of marijuana at the main port here that originated from Ontario in Canada.
In a statement, the Division said that the drugs were found at a transit shed in the Port of Spain on Monday while officers were conducting a routine examination of imported cargo when they discovered 28.88 kilograms of the drug with a street value of TT$8.66 million.
Customs said that the cargo consisted of 18 packets wrapped in black plastic and concealed in a false compartment of a large wooden crate.
The authorities said that they had also seized marijuana with a street value of TT$72,000 at TTPost after the officer had examined cargo imported from Canada.
The Customs and Excise Division said that investigations were continuing and arrests were imminent in both matters.
