KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaicans will go to the polls on February 26 to vote for their local government representatives.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie announced on Thursday during a mass meeting of members of parliament, councilors, and caretakers of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the western city of Montego Bay.

The JLP will campaign for a new mandate at the municipal level under the theme, ‘Building for you and your Community.’

The announcement ends weeks of widespread speculation concerning the election, which is due by February 28.

Nomination day will be February 8.
The JLP and the main opposition People’s National Party had earlier announced that they had finalized their list of candidates and were prepared for the upcoming election.
The last local government poll was held on November 28, 2016.
