HOLLYWOOD DRIVE, West Virginia, CMC – Andre Ramgeet, son of well-known Jamaica-born jockey Andrew Ramgeet, logged three wins over the past two race days at the Charles Town racetrack.
The 32-year-old Florida-born reinsman moved his aggregate of wins for the season to 12 with a single win on Thursday’s nine-race card and a double win on Friday’s eight-race program, moving him into 14th in the jockeys’ standings.
The younger Ramgeet collected a 1-1/2 lengths win aboard the 8-5 favorite Monkey Wrench in the U.S. $20 600 fifth race over 1 300 meters on the dirt on Thursday.
He got Monkey Wrench to race with the pace from the inside. He dueled for the lead from the three-eighths pole and contested on even terms at the rail on the far turn before he drew the three-year-old, grey gelding clear past the eighth pole and holding firm under steady encouragement to record a time of one minute, 23.30 seconds.
The younger Ramgeet opened his account early the next day when he piloted the 6-1 bet Dropkick Queen to a 1-3/4 length win in the U.S. $19 400 seventh race over seven furlongs on a sloppy dirt track in rainy conditions.
After he rated Dropkick Queen close on the inside around the first turn, Ramgeet started a bid on the three-year-old bay filly, leaving the three-eighths pole, raced her in the three-path on the far turn before getting her to dig in for the lead past the sixteenth pole and edging clear late from runner-up Katalima, under Barbadian jockey Reshawn Latchman, to finish in 1 min, 28.93 secs.
The younger Ramgeet followed up with a 1-1/4 length win astride the 8-1 choice. She’s Mybuddybuddy in the U.S. $32 700 fourth race over seven furlongs on the sloppy dirt track.
He got She’s Mybuddybuddy to save ground around the first turn and started a bid on the three-year-old bay filly, leaving the seven-sixteenths pole before he brought her to improve at the rail on the far turn and dig in to take the lead late for a time of 1:28.82.
