ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC—A two-member high-level Palestinian delegation will visit Grenada this week and tour several Caribbean countries.

The delegation will be led by Dr. Linda Sobeh, a Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Palestine and the Head of the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA), and will include Vice Minister Imad Alzuhairi.

The delegation arrives on Thursday and will discuss the situation with Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, and Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Andall.

The delegation members will pay courtesy calls on the Cuban ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ivette Martinez Leyva, and meet with members of the Palestinian community in Grenada before their departure on May 5.

The humanitarian crisis and the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas, resulting in the death of thousands of Palestinians, will form the basis of the discussion of the delegation after Barbados and Jamaica have both announced that they will recognize the State of Palestine.

Grenada has long supported a two-state settlement for Palestine and Israel and the self-determination and protection of the Palestinian people, and since 2011, has officially recognized the State of Israel.

In May 2023, a team of medical experts visited Grenada to provide healthcare services. The twelve-member humanitarian team worked alongside local medical practitioners and performed several surgeries on Grenadian patients.
