CRICKET-Mitchell hails WI’ prowess, resilience’ after Gabba win.

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Former Grenada prime minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, praised the West Indies side’s “prowess and resilience” following their historic win over Australia on Sunday.

The Caribbean side, ranked number eight in the ICC charts, stunned the top-ranked hosts by eight runs in a thrilling finish to the pink-ball final Test in Brisbane to record their first Test win on Australian soil in 27 years.

In a media statement, Mitchell, Grenada’s opposition leader and chairman of West Indies Cricket’s Sub Committee promoting stakeholder engagement, said the “victory stands as a testament to the West Indies’ prowess and resilience.”

“As a staunch supporter of West Indies cricket, I am delighted by the team’s spectacular win against Australia,” Mitchell continued.

The 77-year-old, who in the past has championed reforms of West Indies cricket, also expressed his “unwavering commitment to the advancement of sports in Grenada and across the Caribbean region.”

West Indies were written off before arriving Down Under for the two-Test series after picking a 15-man squad comprising seven uncapped players.

They crashed to a heavy 10-wicket defeat in the first Test in Adelaide before leveling the series with the shock result at the Gabba.
