SANTIAGO, Chile, CMC – The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Wednesday announced that economists and former Trinidad and Tobago government minister Winston Dookeran will deliver the fifth lecture celebrating the 75th anniversary of the ECLAC, which was founded in 1948 as one of the United Nations’ five regional commissions.

SANTIAGO, Chile, CMC – The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Wednesday announced that economists and former Trinidad and Tobago government minister Winston Dookeran will deliver the fifth lecture celebrating the 75th anniversary of the ECLAC, which was founded in 1948 as one of the United Nations’ five regional commissions.

It said that Dookeran, an economist and current Secretary-General of Euclid University, will deliver the lecture next Wednesday, October 25, at the ECLAC headquarters addressing the Caribbean subregion’s current and prospects.

The presentation is entitled “Structure and Synergy in Development: The Caribbean Setting and its Future” and is part of the Keynote Lecture Series organized to commemorate ECLAC’s 75th anniversary.

ECLAC said that over his career, Dookeran has served as governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, an ECLAC economist, a member of the Executive Board of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and a governor of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

He served as finance minister in the coalition People’s Partnership government in 2010 and as foreign affairs minister between 2012 and 15.

Dookeran was appointed Secretary-General of Euclid University in July 2020, based in The Gambia and the Central African Republic, and established as an international intergovernmental organization.

ECLAC said that the lecturer series, taking place through February 2024, will allow “other prominent thinkers …to present their views and ideas about the challenges facing the world and the region”.
