BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC – Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew is leading a delegation to Taiwan as the Twin Island Federation seeks to consolidate its diplomatic relationship with the Asian country.

St. Kitts-Nevis, a unique member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), stands among a handful of countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan despite China’s urging to adhere to the “One China” policy and sever ties with Taipei.

A government statement issued here Tuesday described the June 20-27 trip as “a significant state visit” that is intended “to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues of cooperation between the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Drew’s delegation includes his Foreign Minister, Dr. Denzil Douglas, and the Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, as well as Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Marcus Natta; Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms. Naeemah Hazelle and the acting Director of the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS), Sherema Matthew.
