GUYANA-Authorities launch an investigation into allegations of verbal and physical abuse of students.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Guyana law enforcement and education authorities have launched an investigation into alleged verbal and physical abuse of students and the alleged use of criminal racist language against the students at a secondary school here.

“We have been advised that the Ministry of Education, through the Regional Education Department and the Guyana Police Force, are working together to thoroughly investigate these reports,” according to a government statement.

It said that a joint investigative team had been launched to investigate these allegations and determine the facts surrounding this situation.

“Findings will be made public as soon as they are available,” the statement said, adding that “parents, students, and the general public are assured that the ministry is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

“The ministry will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as necessary. Be assured that the law will take appropriate actions,” the statement said.

While it did not say when the allegations were made, the statement said that “every action will be taken to keep the students attending the school safe and anyone who attempts to interfere with that will be dealt with condignly.”
