NEW YORK, CMC—The president of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), Dr. Ron Daniels, has announced a momentous event delegation of African-American leaders is set to visit Grenada later this week for a crucial discussion with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell.

He said that the June 27-July 2 visit is to fulfill a commitment to support the development plan of the Mitchell government.

“As a small Pan-Africanist organization that achieves major goals, we intentionally build relationships and deploy our limited resources. We are building a relationship with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s government and civil society leaders and organizations because we believe Grenada is emerging as a progressive Pan-Africanist nation on the world stage,” said Daniels.

IBW led a delegation to Grenada in October last year for the first celebration of All Heroes Day, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop’s death.

The delegation then included Don Rojas, who served as Bishop’s press secretary. According to an IDB statement, “As an outgrowth of this historic delegation, IBW devised an Action Agenda that includes impacting US policy towards Grenada, promoting cultural, historical tourism for education and economic development, and building a relationship with the Grenada Reparations Commission.

IBW said that the delegation includes business and professional leaders, political and faith leaders, cultural workers, and artists. A highlight will be a visit to La Digue, the birthplace of Louise Langdon Little, the mother of Malcolm X.

“The goal of this visit is to discuss plans to create some form of memorial monument to uplift and celebrate the legacy of Louise Langdon Little as a woman who was an activist committed to the emancipation of Black people in Grenada and the USA. An appropriate monument could develop into a destination for cultural-historical tourism for the people of Grenada and the Global Black Diaspora,” the IBW said.
