LONDON – Jordan Bowery scored twice after the break as Mansfield Town came from behind to topple English League Two leaders Cheltenham Town 3-1 at One Call Stadium on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, Jamaican striker Jamille Matt struck his 16th goal of the season and seemed set to send Forest Green Rovers top of the table. Still, the West Country outfit remained third after Morecambe grabbed a last-gasp equalizer to force a 2-2 draw at the New Lawn.

Bowery, 29, whose footballing dad Bert was born in St Kitts and Nevis,  struck 55 and 65 minutes after Sam Smith had put the Robins ahead on 51 minutes.

Jamie Reid sandwiched a 63rd-minute goal between Bowery’s double as Cheltenham’s run of four away wins in a row came to a crashing end, but the visitors stayed top as second-placed Cambridge United also lost.

Bowery’s first goal came when he smashed home the first time from 12 yards, then added his second as he advanced into the area after playing a one-two with Reid to fire under goalkeeper Josh Griffiths.

Matt, 31, made it seven goals in seven games when he headed home a whipped cross from Aaron Collins in the 79th minute after the Welshman had opened the scoring in the 10th minute, only for Cole Stockton to restore parity in the 22nd minute.

Forest Green failed to hold on, and Carlos Mended Gomes grabbed a point deep into injury time to keep fifth-placed Morecambe’s own promotion hopes alive.

In League One, 29-year-old defender Curtis Tilt, who is of Jamaican descent, helped Wigan Athletic move out of the relegation zone, his 32nd-minute near-post header setting up the visitors’ 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle.

In the National League, the fifth tier of the English football pyramid, Grenada international Kairo Mitchell scored an 80th-minute consolation goal for King’s Lynn Town in a 3-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Wealdstone.
