PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) says all its offices will be closed from Wednesday for the next three days “after having experienced a ransomware attack on Tuesday.”

In a statement, the NIBTT said it is currently assessing all of its systems and that “all steps are being taken to protect our data integrity and technology hardware.

“We are also continuing to diligently work with our external technology partners to resolve this matter expeditiously,” the NIBTT said that it has since reported the matter to the Trinidad and Tobago Cyber Security Incident Team (TT-CSIRT) under the Ministry of National Security.

The NIBTT, established by the 1971 Act of Parliament, has provided social security services for over 40 years. It is responsible for the operation and administration of the country’s National Insurance System (NIS), which protects over 650,000 insured persons against the economic and social distress caused by loss of earnings arising from work-related injuries and other contingencies.
