KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dame Susan Dougan, GCMG, OBE, is in Taiwan for that country’s National Day celebration.
The two countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations spanning 42 years despite efforts by China to win over lands of the region to their “one China policy.”
During her five-day visit, from October 7th to 11th, Dame Susan will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, participate in a series of National Day celebrations, attend a reception hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, visit the Embassy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Taiwan, meet with Vincentian students, and see the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 Building, and Taipei Botanical Garden.
Taiwan’s Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ambassador Fiona Huei Chun Fan, said the Governor General’s visit would “further deepen the profound friendship and cooperation between our two countries.”
The two countries have, over the years, worked together to promote various cooperation projects in agriculture, information and communications, health care, disaster prevention, women’s empowerment, and education, mutually benefiting the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan.
St. Vincent & the Grenadines has continued to support Taiwan’s participation in the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and other international organizations.
Dame Susan visited Taiwan in 2008 as the Chief Education Officer of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
