ABUJA, Nigeria, CMC – St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has been conferred with an honorary degree from the Bells University of Technology OTA Ogun State Nigeria.

Gonsalves, one of the longest-serving prime ministers in the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping, received the Doctor of Sciences (D. Sc) in Management Sciences during the graduation ceremony at the University’s BUPF International Conference Centre.

Gonsalves had described his visit here as very important from the standpoint of tertiary education.

“My lecture is, in a sense, part of the whole bundle of matters which carry me there,” he said.

On receiving the honorary degree award, Gonsalves thanked the university for bestowing the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines the award through him and announced that the All-Saints Medical School in St. Vincent is offering additional tuition scholarships to Nigerian students, valued at US$10,000 each.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Gonsalves delivered the Convocation Lecture with the university’s chief benefactor, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, in attendance.

Gonsalves, leading a four-member delegation that includes the island’s High Commissioner to London, Cenio Lewis, is due to leave Nigeria on Sunday to visit Ghana, where he will meet with the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
