ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – Governor General, Dame Cecile La Grenade, will deliver the traditional Throne Speech as the new Grenada Parliament opens on August 31, nine weeks after Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell led his National Democratic Congress (NDC) to victory in the June 23 general election.
An official statement announcing the start of the 11th Parliament said the main activities for the first session would be swearing in or taking the oath of Office for each of the 15 Parliamentarians, who were victorious at the polls, the nomination and election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker and appointments to the various committees including the Public Accounts Committee, the Privilege Committee, and the Standing Orders Committee.
The new Senators are also expected to be sworn in next Wednesday.
Governor Genera’s address is expected to outline the new government’s policy, strategy, and plans for the year.
