CHARLES TOWN, West Virginia, CMC – Established Barbadian jockey Reshawn Latchman had one of his best days in the saddle for the new season at the Charles Town racetrack in the United States on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old grabbed a double win on the eight-race card and pushed his tally of wins to eight for the season, which opened on January 3 and closes on December 14 this year.

Latchman kicked off the day’s racing with the narrowest of wins – by a nose – on the 3-5 favorite Buff’s Eye View in the U.S. $ 7,800, claiming their first race over 1 300 meters on the dirt course.

He settled Buff’s Eye View in the three-path around the first turn, then started to challenge for the lead leaving the seven-sixteenths pole, and the eight-year-old, dark bay gelding took over two deep mid-way on the far turn and dug under steady stretch encouragement and lasted to finish in a time of one minute, 21.10 seconds.

Latchman did not have to wait long to return to the winner’s circle, driving the 4-5 favorite Overnight Pow Wow to a four-length win in the U.S. $26 500, maiden particular weight third race over 900 meters on the dirt course.

Overnight, Pow Wow came away slowly and then picked up the chase on the inside. Still, the two-year-old, grey filly lacked room to leave the five-sixteenths marker and raced boxed at the rail through the turn before Latchman got her into the lead, passing the eighth pole, and she proved best with a hand ride through the lane in a time of 53.29 seconds.
