EDMONTON, Alberta, CMC – Barbadian jockey Kyle Carter logged a double at Century Mile here Friday to lead solid Caribbean success on the seven-race card.

Carter’s victories were not just wins, they were thrilling displays of horsemanship. He won race four over six furlongs with favorite Queen Rhonda before returning to capture race seven over the same distance with a 4-5 chance Solo Ring. This brought his tally for the young season to a joint table-topping seven.

It wasn’t just Carter who shone in the races. He was joined by Trinidadian Keishan Balgobin, who paired with favorite Stone Carver to edge the three-year-olds and upward in a six-furlong sprint in race five, while veteran Barbadian Desmond Bryan carried 6-1 choice Smokin Joy to a narrow victory by a neck over the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares in race six. This diverse group of jockeys truly showcased the Caribbean’s talent in horse racing.

Carter finished third aboard 10-1 bet Jersey Shadow in his first appearance in race three but opened his account in the next outing when he guided the six-year-old bay mare Queen Rhonda to victory by a neck over the three-year-olds and upward.

Four-to-one chance Military Sass showed the way through the half-mile in 46.40 seconds before Carter brought Queen Rhonda from the rear of the field to get up late.

His second win came in contrasting style, this time making the running with eight-year-old gelding Solo Ring to get the better of the three-year-olds and upward by a head.

Carter broke the gelding well but was forced to duel with 3-1 bet Silent Runner throughout before prevailing at the wire.
