GUYANA- Airport security team recovers US$ 5,500 for passenger

On Thursday, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) reported the successful recovery of US$5,500 for a passenger.

In a statement, the CJIA’s security department said the passenger, Unis Cato, reported the missing money upon her arrival on April 18.

The CJIA security department, demonstrating their commitment to passenger safety, swiftly reviewed CCTV footage and identified a passenger who had picked up a package that had fallen from Cato.

Upon sharing their findings with the Guyana Police Force, a seamless collaboration ensued, leading to the location of the passenger in Berbice. Following thorough questioning, the Police recovered the full sum of money, which was then returned to Cato.

Cato expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the CJIA security staff and the Guyana Police Force, notably CEO Ramesh Ghir and Commander Krishnadat Ramanarine.

Meanwhile, Chairman of CJIA Board Sanjeev Datadin commended the airport security team and the Guyana Police Force for their work.

He noted that in 2024, the CJIA security department successfully recovered over 260 items for passengers, including suitcases, laptops, mobile phones, jewelry, duty-free items, and travel documents.
