LONDON, CMC – Struggling Forest Green Rovers’ (FGR) attempts to sign St Lucia defender Terell Thomas from English League One rival Charlton Athletic fell through an hour before the January transfer window closed on Tuesday night.

According to Gloucestershire Live, the 27-year-old Thomas arrived at Forest Green’s New Lawn ground at 7 p.m. and was ready to be announced as an FGR player until Charlton pulled the plug with little time remaining.

The website said Thomas, who has appeared twice for St Lucia since making his debut last year, had agreed on terms with Rovers. Still, Charlton also allowed fellow center-backs Eoghan O’Connell and Sam Lavelle to discuss terms with Wrexham and Burton Albion, respectively.

Despite being given the green light to enter talks with the Gloucestershire club, Thomas was not allowed to leave.

Thomas is likely to return to training on Thursday, having had a hotel booked for him overnight with the idea of him signing for basement club Rovers, who have labored in the third tier after winning League Two last season.

The six-foot, three-inch defender has made only six appearances in all competitions for Charlton – a club he rejoined last year after being with them between 2014 and 2017.

Forest Green, who face Charlton at the New Lawn on February 14, made 11 signings in the January window, completed by the arrival on loan of Jamaica youth international Jahmari Clarke from Reading.

The club sacked head coach Ian Burchnall last month, with former Everton star Duncan Ferguson replacing him, and offloaded several players, including 33-year-old Jamaican striker Jamille Matt who has joined League Two side Walsall.
