BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Jamaica remained the highest-ranked Caribbean Football Union (CFU) team in the world rankings after the latest edition was released Thursday by the sport’s world governing body, Fifa.

The Jamaicans are ranked 55th in the latest world rankings from the apex body of the sport, making them the sixth highest-ranked team in the Concacaf region and one of four CFU teams inside the world’s top 100.

According to Fifa, 174 matches spanning all four corners of the globe were played during the most recent window in the men’s international match calendar from February to April, including the finals of the Concacaf Nations League, and they have had a significant effect on the world rankings.

The Reggae Boyz, as the Jamaicans are known, played four matches during the period, winning twice and losing once.

They beat hosts Trinidad & Tobago 1-0 in a friendly match on March 1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, and two days later, they drew 0-0 against the same opponents.

The Jamaicans endured a heart-breaking 3-1 extra-time loss against the hosts United States in the semi-finals of the Concacaf Nations League on March 21 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in the American city of Arlington in the state of Texas before they prevailed 1-0 against Panama in the consolation final of the same competition three days later at the same venue.

Haiti ranked 90th in the world (ninth in Concacaf), Curaçao at 91st on the global stage (10th in Concacaf), and T&T at 98th in the world (11th in Concacaf) remain the other three teams in the Fifa top 100 from the CFU. In contrast, Antigua & Barbuda ranked 142nd on the global stage but is still the fifth-highest-ranked CFU team and 14th in Concacaf.

All have held their positions in the CFU rankings from the previous release of the world rankings, along with the following five CFU teams in the world rankings.

The CFU top 10 in the world is rounded out by Suriname, which is 144th in the world (15th in Concacaf), St Kitts & Nevis, which is 147th (16th in Concacaf), the Dominican Republic, which is 150th (17th in Concacaf), Guyana, which moved up three places to 154th in the world and 18th in Concacaf, and Puerto Rico, which is 160th in the world (19th in Concacaf).

St Lucia, with a world ranking of 165th (up two places), is the 11th-ranked team in the CFU and 20th in Concacaf.
