LONDON, CMC – Jamaica international Jonson Clarke-Harris will remain at Peterborough after a deadline day swoop by Bristol Rovers collapsed dramatically.
Media reports said Rovers had agreed on a club-record transfer fee with Peterborough United of 800 000 pounds sterling plus add-ons but still need to get the relevant paperwork filed with the English Football League by the 11 p.m. deadline on Friday.
Clarke-Harris’s signing was expected to put the finishing touches on a busy transfer window for manager Joey Barton, the club confirming their disappointment at failing to secure the services of the prolific striker.
“This morning, an EFL representative confirmed that our contract application for Jonson Clarke-Harris was rejected,” the League One club said.
“The club had worked throughout the day to agree terms with Peterborough, the player, and his representatives. However, late changes to the deal prevented it from being completed.
“The outcome is a disappointing one for all involved. However, everything possible was done to finalize the agreement and register the required documents with the EFL before the deadline.
“We now look forward to today’s game and the season ahead with the squad we have built throughout this window.”
Clarke-Harris had been linked to Rovers throughout the summer transfer window, but the southwest England club never made a formal bid.
The 29-year-old, who made his only appearance for the Reggae Boyz last May, won the League One Golden Boot last season after netting 26 league goals but was transfer-listed by the club after they failed to gain promotion to the Championship.
