LONDON, Nov 12, Former Jamaica youth international Jevani Brown led a rousing late comeback by Exeter City to claim a narrow 3-2 English League One victory over Peterborough United as he haunted his former club with an injury-time winner on Saturday.

The goal took 28-year-old Brown’s tally for the campaign to 11, upstaging Reggae Boy Jonson Clarke-Harris, whose 13th goal of the season had helped the visitors go into the break all square at 1-1.

Winger Garath McCleary, a 35-year-old former Reggae Boy, curled his third of the campaign into the far corner with the outside of his boot on 27 minutes as Wycombe Wanderers left hosts Forest Green Rovers rooted to the bottom of League One with a comfortable 2-0 win at the New Lawn.

Guyana international Tré Mitford bagged a brace – on four and 63 minutes – for Gloucester City but finished empty-handed as visitors Scarborough United bounced back to win their sixth-tier National League North clash 3-2 at Meadow Park. The city dropped to 10th on the table.

St Lucia international Kieran Montlouis, a 27-year-old midfielder, netted in the 47th minute but also ended up on the losing side as National League South leaders Ebbsfleet United went down 2-1 at home to Tonbridge Angels.

Joe Willock, 23, a midfielder of Montserratian descent, grabbed the 67th-minute winner as high-flying Newcastle United beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Premier League.

Playing at St James Park, match-winner Brown also had a hand in Exeter’s opener. Archie Collins forced a superb save from Lucas Bergstrom after 28 minutes, but from Brown’s resulting corner, Tim Dieng rose highest to glance the ball into the net.

Peterborough missed a glorious chance to equalize when the 28-year-old Clarke-Harris headed wide when unmarked six yards from goal, but he made no mistake moments later when he fired the ball across the goal and into the corner from 18 yards five minutes before half-time.

Ephron Mason-Clark smashed in a fine volley at the far post to put Peterborough ahead on 81 minutes, but Exeter hit straight back when Jake Caprice’s cross was headed down by Josh Key, and substitute Sam Nombe slammed the ball home from close range.

Then, in the first minute of stoppage time, Jay Stansfield sent Brown racing clear, and he curled home a wonderful strike from 20 yards to complete a stunning comeback for Exeter, who sit ninth place in the table.
