Earl Moodie Sr played many roles as a Bronx resident, family man, internationally recognized recording artist, mentor, community advocate, and so much more. Moodie’s musical and cultural influence in the Caribbean and the Northeast Bronx has transcended multiple generations. Councilman Kevin C. Riley mentioned during the event:
“Earl Moodie’s name will now live forever on this street—where his passion for music, people, and progress came to life”. “This street co-naming is more than symbolic. It’s a celebration of a man who used rhythm, voice, and vision to bring people together, and who never stopped fighting for the spirit of our community. It was an honor to work alongside the Moodie Family to ensure his name, his music, and his message will continue to echo for generations.”
The event concluded with a celebratory block party, which included live music, tributes, and performances. Businesses, media companies, and personalities, such as Moodie Records, Irie Jam Radio, DJ Madout, Air Drizzy Kicks, Concord Sound, Broadway Sound, and Ashanti Nightstorm, all supported this dynamic event. Community-based organizations were in attendance, including Catholic Charities of New York and the Mosholu Preservation Corporation. These CBOs reflected Moodie’s spirit of giving back by sharing community resources with event attendees.
Councilman Riley’s commitment to the Black and Caribbean community was evident with the unveiling of “Earl Moodie’s Way” in the Northeast Bronx. Uplifting the voices of the community by celebrating and honoring community leaders not in memory but in legacy. The Moodie Family shared their gratitude towards Councilman Riley:
“Moodie’s Records, the business our father founded, was originally located right here at this very corner. “For over 30 years, it was more than just a store—it was a community hub, a cultural landmark, and a space where people came to connect through music and love. Having ‘Earl Moodie’s Way’ at this exact intersection is a powerful tribute to his life’s work, and we are incredibly grateful to Council Member Riley and the entire community for making this moment possible.
