CAPE TOWN, South Africa, CMC – Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard produced an explosive knock, but it went in vain as his MI Cape Town slumped to their sixth defeat in eight games, with an emphatic ten-wicket loss to Joburg Super Kings.

The veteran all-rounder, who has struggled for form throughout the tournament, belted four and four sixes in a 10-ball unbeaten 33 to fire the hosts up to 80 for three in a rain-hit contest reduced to eight overs per side at Newlands here Monday.

Ryan Rickelton struck a 16-ball 23 at the top of the order in a 31-run, opening partnership with Rassie van der Dussen (16) before South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir (2-13) struck twice in his only over to hurt the innings.

Super Kings coasted in reply despite being set a revised target of 98, captain Faf du Plessis blasting an unbeaten 50 off 20 balls.

He struck five fours and three sixes while his partner Leus du Plooy counted two fours and four sixes in a 14-ball unbeaten 41 as Super Kings got home with 14 balls to spare.

Cape Town is at the bottom of the six-team league with nine points, Super Kings lie fourth with 14 points, and Durban Super Giants topped the standings with 28 points.

Pollard, who also captains Cape Town, has gathered 127 runs from seven innings.
