KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The police have charged a 24-year-old man with the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle. He is Travis Phillip Ellis from the central parish of St. Catherine.
Along with the murder of Gayle, Ellis is also charged with robbery with aggravation about the same incident.
Gayle, who made her mark as a court reporter with The Gleaner, was murdered, and her body was discovered at her home in the Caymanas Estate country club in St. Catherine on December 17.
The 77-year-old woman was reportedly hit in the head and stabbed several times. Her cellular phone and vehicle were reported missing.
Investigators later located her car in the town of Portmore in the parish.
Further checks the following day resulted in the arrest of Ellis, who is also facing a charge of housebreaking in relation to a separate incident at another house in the same area.
