Relay team sets new world record in mixed 4x100m event
Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson and Tia Clayton set a world record in the mixed 4×100 relay.

GABORONE, Botswana, CMC – Jamaica’s mixed 4x100m relay team sensationally began the World Athletics Relays by establishing a new world record in the event on Saturday’s opening day.

The quartet of Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson, and Tia Clayton dominated their heat on their way to clocking a superb 39.99 seconds to lead all qualifiers into Sunday’s final.

It broke the previous record of 40.07 seconds, set by Canada in the first heat.

Great Britain finished second behind Jamaica in 40.72 seconds and also advanced to the final, with Australia third in 40.78 seconds.

The performance also booked Jamaica’s spot at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, to be held in Budapest, Hungary, in September, as well as at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing in 2027.
