PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India to advance bilateral cooperation in digital transformation and information and communications technology (ICT).

Digital Transformation Minister Hassel Bacchus led a team of officials to the Asian country earlier this month to sign the MoU with a government statement indicating that the long-term goal of this exchange is to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s position in the global e-governance arena.

It said that the MoU, which was signed by Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary on behalf of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Dr. Roger Gopaul, Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner to India, will facilitate bilateral cooperation and the exchange of experiences and digital technology-based solutions between the two countries.

“A significant outcome is that it allows for the sharing of IndiaStack – India’s collection of public solutions and services that facilitate digital identity, data, and payment services on a massive scale.”

Bacchus says, “Our countries’ shared vision of harnessing the power of technology to uplift citizens will create a brighter future in which they are active participants in and contributors to the digital society and economy.”

The statement said that the MoU will provide technical cooperation in digital transformation through the exchange of leading practices, knowledge transfer and sharing, capacity building, and adopting technology solutions.

“The partnership transcends beyond mere adoption of technology into a transferal of expertise, experience, and lessons learned as Trinidad and Tobago forges towards a digital future. The MDT emphasizes its commitment to propelling Trinidad and Tobago into a technologically advanced era that will benefit citizens, businesses, and the economy as a whole,” it added.
