PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – The South Korea-based conglomerate SK-Group, seeks investments in the energy, information, communication, and technology (ICT) and innovation sectors in the Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.
“We are here to share different ideas with the President and offer ideas to help develop Suriname’s economy with the opportunities we have in South Korea,” said Jungho Park, Vice Chairman of SK Group and chief executive officer of SK Hynix, that’s involved in the manufacture of ‘memory chips.’
Park said the delegation, which held talks with President Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi, spoke of his country’s socioeconomic development dating back to 70 years ago when it was considered among the poorest countries in the world.
Now the Asian country has developed into one of the richest globally.
“We want to share this valuable and colorful experience with Suriname and indicate how this status was achieved. Give us a chance and let’s work together,” Park said.
The Suriname Communication Service (SCS) reporting on the meeting with President Santokhi said that the SK Group mainly concentrates on the ICT and energy industry. It is also into factory farming and small-scale forestry.
Park says Suriname can benefit from the many business opportunities. President Santokhi, recognizing the historic relationship with South Korea, said he appreciates that the country wants to give something back to Suriname.
The head of state has proposed strengthening cooperation at the level of the two presidents. It is also open to the technical assistance that the group of companies could provide to Suriname.
