PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – President Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi will visit the Dominica Republic next week with the ongoing political, economic, and social situation in Haiti among the agenda items.

Santokhi will arrive in Santo Domingo on October 4 and hold bilateral talks with President Luis Abinader.

According to the official program, the two leaders will have a private meeting at the presidential office of the National Palace, with Santokhi expected to raise the need for support for a multi-national security mission led by Kenya to the neighboring French-speaking country.

President Santokhi will also be received by the presidents of the Senate, Ricardo De Los Santos, and the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, during a visit to the National Congress.

Last week, Suriname participated in a meeting with international partners, including the United States and Kenya, on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to discuss the situation in Haiti, where that country’s Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henry has called for an international military force to restore peace and security there.
