PROSPECT CLEANING SERVICE
Ingrid Murray is an accomplished accountant, enterprising entrepreneur, and distinguished businesswoman who currently serves as the President and Director of Facilities for Prospect Cleaning Service – a family-owned company with her husband, Courtney Murray.
Like most small businesses, COVID-19 presented many challenges for Prospect Cleaning Service that lost over 65% of its revenue due to the global pandemic. However, in the midst of every storm is a silver lining. For PCS, a New York State and City certified Minority Women Business Enterprise (MWBE), the cloud began to clear when it was chosen to help New York Metro Transit Authority (MTA) stay on track. The family-owned business was chosen to provide quality COVID-19 cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitization services for those essential workers traveling along the Metro-North commuter rail lines. With less than 72-hour Murray, a staunch negotiator, was able to onboard and train over 50 essential service providers in OSHA’s amended CDC approved practices and supply MTA with 24-hour staffing for its iconic Grand Central Station terminal.
An avid social media user, Murray took her followers along her prosperous journey. Her posting caught the attention of American Express, who shared her story through its Stand for Small campaign, which was featured in Business Insider. Early this year, Murray was chosen as one of Brooklyn Borough President’s COVID Heroes for her outstanding work in helping keep New York safe during COVID-19.
A graduate of Excelsior Community College in Kingston, Jamaica, Ingrid relocated her family to the United States in 2010. Upon her arrival, the mother of 5 enrolled at Medgar Evers College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administrations. She’s currently taking online classes at the University of Cumbria, where she is on track to receive her master’s in organizational leadership.
Murray credits her participation in Goldman Sach’s 10,000 Small Businesses program for her current success. “The program was like attending an MBA program on steroids,” Murray recalls. “They provided updated statistics and data of every aspect of your business and a wealth of experts to guide you.” As one of the delegates, Murray chose nationally to testify before Congress on behalf of small minority-owned businesses.
Although life in the United States has presented many challenges, Murray has persevered and helped others along the way. After witnessing her sister suffer from breast cancer, Murray sat out to make a difference by volunteering with the American Cancer Society and later joining forces with Cleaning for a Reason offer cleaning services to breast cancer patients. Other honors and awards include the 2019 Brooklyn Power Woman Award; 2015 nominee for Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Building Brooklyn Award; 2015 Worldwide Publishing’s Top Female Industry Executive Award.
