KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The court, on Friday, ordered the reinstatement of Corporal Rohan James to the post of Chairman of the Police Federation.

The order was granted Friday afternoon in the Supreme Court, following an application by his attorneys challenging his interdiction by the Police High Command.

The judge also granted James and his attorneys leave to seek judicial review of the decision to halt comments he made against the High Command during wage negotiations on behalf of rank-and-file members of the force.

King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie, representing the Police High Command, told Radio Jamaica News that his team will file an appeal against the ruling that James should be reinstated.

In July, James’ attorneys filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the interdiction and a stay on all disciplinary proceedings against him pending a judicial review of the police commissioner’s order.

This took place after James, who chaired the Jamaica Police Federation that represents rank-and-file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, was removed from duty as a corporal on the order of the police commissioner for making inflammatory comments deemed a violation of the Police Service Regulations.
