KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, is scheduled to deliver a presentation on the music and legacy of Reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley at the Jamaica Music Museum (JaMM) heritage series, Grounation, on Sunday.

In its 13th staging, the series will be held each Sunday in February under the theme, ‘Bob Marley at Eighty: His Music, Legend and Legacy.” There will also be an exhibition, ‘From African to Jamaican: Music and Black Culture,’ which explores the Afro-Jamaican creative ethos that has garnered global acclaim.

Mottley’s presentation, ‘So much trouble in the world: What we need is love,’ will be presented through a pre-recorded video at the event.

According to the Director/Curator at JaMM, Herbie Miller, discussions will held following the presentation.

According to Miller, the Prime Minister was selected for the presentation because she used Bob Marley’s lyrics to amplify her message on global issues.

He said she frequently draws on Marley’s songs, such as ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ and ‘So Many Things to Say’ when addressing global concerns.

Mottley will also address issues such as global warming and the environmental challenges facing humanity today.

“I particularly admire Mia Mottley for her courage to stand up to the Western world on behalf of developing nations. Her advocacy on the international stage has proven highly effective,” he stated.

The JaMM is a Division of the IOJ, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport.
