KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—The Jamaica government says it has bolstered its bilateral relations with India in key areas that will benefit both countries.

A government statement issued here Friday said that the two countries had exchanged four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to concretize their areas of cooperation and that they will collaborate in digital transformation to share successful digital public infrastructure and promote financial inclusion and social-economic transformation.

The MOUs also cover the cultural exchange program between the countries for 2024 to 2029, cooperation in sports, and an agreement between NPCI International Payments Limited and eGov Jamaica Limited.

The statement said that Prime Minister Andrew Holness and India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, welcomed the deepening of relations with Holness during his week-long visit to the Southern Asian country. It noted that for almost two centuries, Indians have made their mark in Jamaica, contributing to the country’s rich cultural heritage and development in critical areas such as health, education, information technology, and business.

“Having had fruitful talks with Prime Minister Modi, I can confidently say that today heralds a new phase in bilateral relations between Jamaica and India. Our discussions touched a range of issues of mutual interest, including health, agriculture, digital transformation, film, education, sports, tourism, and many other subjects,” Holness said.

The statement said that Holness is on “a working visit” to India and is accompanied by a delegation including Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, and the Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information, Skills and Digital Transformation, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon.
