BROOKLYN, NY– A 25-year-old man has become Guyana’s latest victim of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as Suriname; the Bahamas also reported deaths from the virus the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health said on Tuesday night that the 25-year-old from Region Four died at a medical facility, bringing the country’s total to 69.
Guyana has recorded 2 437 cases of the virus, with 35 new cases reported in 24 hours.
In the nearby country of Suriname, the Dutch-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) state registered its 100th death on Tuesday when three people died from COVID-19.
The authorities said that swabs were administered from 120 people in the past 24 hours with 19 testings positive.
They said the number of active cases is at 118 out of the total infections is 4,759.
“Sixty people are currently in hospitals and four in intensive care units. Sixteen civilians have been declared cured in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 4,541. There are 64 positive persons in isolation and 88 in quarantine,” the authorities added.
The Bahamas continues to register deaths from the virus, with the Ministry of Health confirming “the unfortunate death of a 64-year-old old male of New Providence” and that there are three additional deaths under investigation.
“This increases the number of deaths under investigation to 21 and the confirmed death toll now stands at 75”.
The Ministry said that 48 new cases were recorded over the past 24 hours, pushing the total to 3,418, with 2,381 instances coming from New Providence, followed by Grand Bahama with 617, Abaco 110, and Bimini 64.
Belize reported that a 30-year-old man succumbed to the virus after being hospitalized for more than two weeks. It said that the death toll now stands at 21.
Over the past 24 hours, the country recorded 34 new cases, pushing the total to 1,669, with 644 active topics.
“We have 37 recoveries to report. Our active cases stand at 38.5 percent of the total identified positive cases,” the authorities said.
In French-speaking Haiti, the Ministry of Public Health is reporting five new cases and no deaths. “
It said that the total of infections is now 8 624, with 1 921 active cases. The death toll remains at 221.
Trinidad and Tobago said the number of persons testing positive now stands at 4,026 after 52 additional cases were recorded over the past 24 hours.
It said that 2,090 and the death toll remains at 65. The number of persons discharged from public health facilities is 845, with 1,026 recovered community cases.
