HORSE RACING-Maragh and Chatterpaul combine for a winner

New York City, CMC- In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, Jamaican jockey Romero Maragh and Guyanese trainer Naipaul Chatterpaul united to secure a single but significant victory on the eight-race card on Friday at the Aqueduct racetrack in the United States.

Maragh is fifth in the jockeys’ standings and collected his seventh win of the season, which ends on Monday, when he drove the 7-1 chance So High, owned and trained by Chatterpaul, to a one 1/4-lengths win in the U.S. $82 000 allowance fifth race over 1 700 meters on the turf course.

The United States-born Maragh, known for his strategic racing, swiftly maneuvered So High to the front after initially positioning towards the rear of the 12-horse field.

So High showed the way while well-rated on the inside down the backstretch and controlled the action around the far turn.

The eight-year-old, British-bred chestnut gelding responded well when asked for his best in the upper stretch and held under strong urging for one minute, 41.43 seconds.

The win for So High was the first from three starters for Chatterpaul.
