CHARLES TOWN, West Virginia, CMC – Established Barbadian reinsman Reshawn Latchman maintained his place in the top echelons of the jockeys’ colony at the Charles Town race track in the United States with a double on the eight-race card on Saturday.

The 31-year-old now has 72 wins for the season, which opened on January 4 and closes on December 16, and he is third in the standings behind Arnaldo Bocachica, on 158, and Marshall Mendez, on 104.

Latchman opened the day’s racing with a comfortable five-length win aboard the 4-5 favorite Royal Mahogany in the U.S. $11 800 first race over 900 meters on the dirt track.

Royal Mahogany broke awkwardly and lunged outward into the path of a rival, then accelerated to the front approaching the three-eighths pole. Still, Latchman got the four-year-old dark bay gelding to recover, and draw clear past the five-sixteenths pole, widened at the rail on the turn and was ridden out under a hand ride to clock 52.13 seconds, only 2.04 secs off the track record.

Latchman later scored a one 1/4-length win on the 6-5 favorite Gold Fiber in the U.S. $28 400 sixth race over 900 meters on the dirt track.

Gold Fiber took a lead early in the sprint, and the three-year-old, dark bay gelding set a pressured pace and never relinquished the advantage to finish in 51.97, only 1.88 of the track record.
