HORSE RACING-Bridgmohan narrowly misses out on feature win

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, CMC – Established Jamaican jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan won once and narrowly missed winning the feature race on the nine-race card on Friday at the Remington Park race track.

The 34-year-old, who began riding professionally 17 years ago and has over 900 wins on the North American circuit, including eight this season at Remington, lost out on the featured Trevor S. Clever Stakes after a win earlier in the day.

Bridgmohan drove 15-1 outsider My Buddy Mel to second behind Magic Gant, under Richard Eramia, in the U.S. $75 000 race for two years olds over seven furlongs on the dirt track.

The Jamaican rider was unhurried on My Buddy Mel early in the race, then saved ground on the turn before rallying his mount inside the homestretch and gaining ground. Still, Eramia got Magic Grant to draw away and clock one minute, 26.17 seconds for the win in the penultimate race on the card.

Earlier, Bridgemohan steered the 6-1 bet Electoral to a three-quarters-of-a-length win in the U.S. $11 000, claiming the sixth race over 1 200 meters on the dirt.

He was also unhurried and saved ground on the turn on Electoral before rallying the seven-year-old, dark bay gelding in a strong drive inside the homestretch and powering to the front late to be best in the end and finish in 1 min, 11.73 secs.
